Musang King, undoubtedly, the most sought-after variety of Malaysian durians, has established a niche market in the agro-commodity sector. Its exotic flavour, intense fragrance, superior texture and nutritious qualities are factors driving the strong demand from consumers in Asia Pacific countries. This market is expected to expand and grow further, as more and more consumers, especially those from China, clamour to savour this strong and flavourful variety of durian. M7 Plantation Berhad, (The Company) sees huge business potential in durian farming and is developing a project called Durian Valley, spanning 10,000 acres in Gua Musang, Kelantan. According to the Serdang Agriculture Department, Musang King originated from Tanah Merah, Kelantan, but also grows well in other locations in this country, with similar soil and climatic conditions.M7 Plantation has planted and would continue to plant, in phases, Musang King D197 durian trees at the project site. The Company is offering to sell some of these trees, at RM5,000 per tree, to those keen to participate in the thriving Musang King market.Purchasers would have to appoint M7 Plantation as The Manager, to upkeep, fertilise and manage the tree and fruit production for 25-years. Under the terms and conditions of the appointment letter, The Manager shall be entitled to 50% of the durian fruits harvested from the tree.-POTENTIAL RETURNS-Fruit production and harvest vary from tree to tree. To avoid a situation of extreme or uneven harvest, M7 Plantation has proposed to use the average of the total fruits harvested from each lot of 1,500 trees, to calculate the entitlement. -MARKETING PLANS-The Company's business strategy is to develop Durian Valley into a model for modern farming, employing sustainable, technology-driven systems to grow the trees, cost efficiently. More importantly, these modern systems are designed to create a nurturing and conducive environment for the trees to produce fruits consistently and at consistently high quality. And be well-placed to meet the demand for good quality fruits. To tap the strong growth in the consumer market, M7 Plantation will be adopting a two-prong approach to promote the Durian Valley's brand of Musang King. The first-prong is to promote the Durian Valley brand to in-bound Chinese tourists, through marketing initiatives with tour agents in Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and China. At the appropriate time, the Company will enter into collaboration with business associates in countries in Asia to lock in the demand.The second prong is to export durian products to established markets.
